Interrupt Cycle [Installation View], Five-Screen Video Installation with Sound, Dimensions Variable, 2016

Interrupt Cycle [2016]

Filmed in a shifting labyrinth of translucent corridors, a surreal interpretation of the corridors found in domestic environments and hospitals, Interrupt Cycle follows a man's repeating journey through this constructed space as he attempts to position himself within his environment. From an abstract visualisation of the firing of ‘place cells’ in the brain to an exhaustive narrative attempting to contextualise the space, the five screens depart from traditional modes of representing Alzheimer's to create new understanding around spatial memory and cognitive mapping, structured by an algorithm to create an unstable version of events.

Selected Exhibitions

Interrupt Cycle has been presented at the Byker Gallery, the NewBridge Project and as part of Cycle 2 at 36 Lime Street Gallery and as part of the ArtHouses programme for the Whitley Bay Film Festival in August 2017 as a five-screen installation with an accompanying research paper. A selection of the video work was exhibited at Black Box at the Institute for Genetic Medicine, Newcastle in 2019 and House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough and By Other Means, Clapton in 2016.
