Between States [2018]
Between States explores mechanisms of transition and the notion of being between one state and another, drawing on underlying ideas that inform my practice: from the line between perception and reality understood by Alzheimer’s patients to experiences of transitional spaces in domestic and institutional environments, outside the certainty of what is real and what is not.
Beginning with Mapping Space, a commission for the NewBridge Project, Between States comprises photography, video and critical writing and has been presented at TESTT Space, Durham in November 2017; at the NewBridge Project: Newcastle in June 2018; and at Pineapple Black in Middlesbrough from August-September 2019.
