Martha [Alzheimer's Machine III] [2016-20]
Martha [Alzheimer’s Machine III] is a series of short artist films, photographs and installation works that explore the effect of Alzheimer’s disease on the way we see, interpret and understand the world around us through the eyes of Martha, a fictional character living with AD.
Examining the effect of Alzheimer’s disease on autobiographical memory and the behavioural and psychological features of the condition, competing and intersecting narratives give conflicting accounts that examine the complex intersections between autobiographical memory, account, fact and fiction that underpin conscious recollection.
Work from Martha [Alzheimer's Machine III] has been exhibited at Cycle 2 in June 2016 at 36 Lime Street Gallery, an exhibition drawing together previous and new work that explores spatial representation in Alzheimer's disease; ArtHouses 2017 in August 2017 in Whitley Bay; Dementia, Community and Spirituality conference in November 2017 in Jesmond; the NewBridge Project in February 2018 as a series of 3 exhibitions; Black Box at the Institute for Genetic Medicine in 2019; Pineapple Black in Middlesbrough in 2019; Wigan STEAM in 2019 and Shieldfield Art Works in 2020.
