I'm delighted to announce that Interrupt Cycle has been selected for the ArtHouses 2017 programme, which will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August as part of the Whitley Bay Film Festival.
Filmed in a shifting labyrinth of translucent corridors, a surreal interpretation of corridors found in households and hospitals, Interrupt Cycle is a 5-screen video installation that explores how Alzheimer's disease affects the way we understand and remember space.
Interrupt Cycle follows a man repeatedly moving through this labyrinth as he attempts to understand his environment; from an abstract visualisation of the firing of ‘place cells’ in the brain to an exhaustive and increasingly unsettling narrative of the man’s attempts to contextualise his environment.
Alongside these videos is a 3-D print of the hippocampus, a part of the brain that is severely affected by AD and connected to spatial memory, and an illustrated research paper that is free for visitors to take.
You can see Interrupt Cycle at 34 Victoria Avenue, Whitley Bay, NE26 2AZ on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August 2017 between 6-10pm alongside a diverse range of video work shown in the houses of local residents. Find out more about ArtHouses and keep up-to-date with the event here.
